 2021 Wall of Kindness

#TotallyTanya

#SpreadThe Kindness

The Angels humbly inspire you to open yourself to the  less fortunate
For in donating our time & possessions we receive more
For in recognizing the power within us we reduce our losses and grief
For in giving of ourselves we become stronger & richer

Tanya knew of this from almost since she was born
And so we continue to pass her and your  torch of enrichment
Like hearts pouring from an angel's basket

👍CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME ….

👍AND EXTENDS TO FRIENDS AND HOME AIDES.....

👍 FINALLY SPREADING FAR AND WIDE THROUGH  PERSONAL DEDICATION AND A NETWORK OF CHARITIES

👍CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME ….

Lee Innocenti

Took care of her mother until the age of almost 105 of which the last 20 years was in her home. The caring, the sacrifices and the level of giving has been inspiring to behold.

Anonymous Couple

Sheltered a family of 3 who lost power during a storm for as long as they had no power for several days. Despite having a small house of their own, they were not stingy in their generosity.

Nick Bayhi

My act was inviting my mother to join me for Thanksgiving this year. The past couple years I have been hosting “friends”-focused thanksgivings in the absence of any coordinated family efforts, but I know inviting her to join in will mean a lot. It will also be an opportunity for her to see me ‘in my element,’ and for me to share a little more about who I am day-to-day with her vs a typical, 1:vacation.

Mallika & Manjari Mitra

We continue to do social service to our near and dear relatives who really need help as they are growing old and nobody to look after them.

Anju Bhagar Kholi

Mom's  house in India had been locked up for 2 1/2 years. She fretted about its condition while unable to travel during COVID times. Anju took her mother over from the US to clean up the house. Never been involved with white washing as far as she can remember. 10 long days of hard work and shouldering a lot that made her mother relieved.

Tanya as I remember her, has always been wise beyond her years..

A very thoughtful grand daughter, loving daughter & an amazingly supportive sister. A kind hearted, wise soul

👍AND EXTENDS TO FRIENDS AND HOME AIDES.....

Judy Bonfield Steinberg

I continue to stay in touch with sick and elderly friends. I call and send cards. Additionally, I give to several charities.

Bijoy Kumar Bose

Yesterday morning our cook cum maids daughter turned up instead of our maid due to an emergency at home. I soon realized she had not eaten anything. I was trying to make breakfast for myself. So I prepared a poached egg and toast and offered to the girl who looked happy afterwards! It was so satisfying and made me feel happy.

I also fixed an appointment with a doctor for our maid's elder daughter, who was suffering and offered to take them to the doctor. Hope she gets well soon.

Lee Innocenti

I found a college prep program that guarantees 4 year college tuition for my aides daughter. I filled out application and she got in. I’m thrilled.

I help my snow bird neighbors manage their apartment by doing their mail and inspecting their apartment.

Catherine Smith

Right now I'm helping a friend get into care, and go through dealing with age related onset of disability. ...its furniture and doctors etc. They have no family nearby.

Andrea Ramalho
Andrea practices one of the most difficult forms of kindness: giving of herself in an open-ended no-holds barred form of support and loyalty. A friend who often feels left behind and left out, finds a consistent caring supporter and friend in Andrea. Despite recently having become a mother, despite sleepless nights and a huge shift in priorities, Andrea does not skimp on giving time and ear and strong support to encourage her friend. Hers is a level of sacrifice and giving that is unparalleled. Andrea writes “She has been absolutely AMAZING with my baby and not demanding of my time/resentful if I can't do something (FaceTime, hang out, forget to call back, etc.). I appreciate that a lot and it makes it easier for me to go out of my way even when I'm strapped for time to make sure she feels special to me & my family. I know she is having a tough time these last few years. During a time where I feel like I could have had many "last straw" type moments with her, or just decided to de-prioritize our friendship, I've stuck through it, and I'm very glad I did. She deserves a good and solid friend and I'm proud of myself that I can still be that friend for her, even right now while sleep is lacking and my mental priorities have shifted tremendously toward my baby.”

 Elizabeth Jeggli-Knight

This year I dedicated my time to help a close friends‘ family friend find a job after seeing that this person was highly talented, sort of concerned about losing self confidence and was so devistated of market situation here; but due to the 50+ issue found it difficult to reposition in the marketplace…Through ongoing coaching and reviews together this individual here landed a job which offered growth and utilizes the individual talent < To grow happy in your profession, one needs both sides happy at the table>. I was asked what do I want in return…I said remember and pay it forward in service for someone else who loses hope in this tough market….

👍 FINALLY SPREADING FAR AND WIDE THROUGH  PERSONAL DEDICATION AND A NETWORK OF CHARITIES

. Alice Gatti

We provide many Thanksgiving meals for the homeless and needy through our church. We will be honored to do it in Tanya's memory.

Lalita Sanyal

In Tanya's memory I have given in charity to veterans and hungry children at our store.

To spread Tanya’s kind and love for humanity, donated to a charity in Tanya’s name that will provide a warm Thanksgiving meal and shelter to 18. Tanya, your memory lingers in my heart

Donated to Jessica D'Amico 's 25 burpee challenge for the Cancer Society of America, and shared her challenge on my timeline.

In life Tanya aspired to be a physician so that she could heal the sick and help those who suffered.  Cancer was her focus from the time she was in high school. She did a cancer research project in high school at the Robert Wood Johnson hospital which was recognized and awarded by researchers there. She worked in cancer research at the Koch institute of MIT. A paper she co-authored was recognized as groundbreaking, in that it found common pathways to several forms of cancer.  Her picture still hangs in the institute as an inspiration to researchers. Thus, as her father, I make this donation in her name, so that it makes it possible for us to ease the suffering of those who suffer from this dreaded disease.

Greg & Diana Cross

Greg and Diana’s act of kindness consisted of donating various food items to a local pantry during the winter holidays

Ishani Sandesara

And here is another lifetime of dedication of the most difficult kind in kindness and giving....

Ishani is a pediatric palliative care doctor. A harder job one cannot imagine. Her life is a dedication to kindness and an ode to all that is both tough and good all at once. Thank you Ishani for courageously carrying the torch.

Malini Sahani

My husband and I find joy in helping those less fortunate by distributing clothes to destitute ladies being looked after by the R.K. Mission..

The most fun moment was when we catered lunch to the orphans of Mother Teresa's orphanage and spent a whole day with them. The tiny tots insisted that we join them for lunch. Believe me, they were so happy that when we got ready to leave them, they held on tightly to us , refusing to let us go. We waited till they were tucked into their litter beds for their. afternoon siesta before leaving.

The experience cost us. so little but the difference it made to the little ones was seen on each little face. It was one of the. most satisfying moments for us,

Subbayamma Chitrapu

I can’t tell of great acts that I’ve performed in the immediate period.

However I support a young widow, a single mom with two boys with their school fees. My sisters Padma and Anuradha have contributed to paying for special competitive exam fees for 15 girls in India.

Shayoni Mehta

Despite struggling with tremendous and very serious personal setbacks, she took the time on November 4th to notice and help an old man down the stairs... in a seedy neighborhood which we normally would want to skip past at rapid pace.
Editor's Note: A steadfast keeper of Tanya's memories, she is always a hero.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Jennifer El-Rifai
Nothing like someone helping an animal in need! Jennifer found a dog during her walk on Novermber 4th, with not one but two collars but no name tag. She got him to trot alongside her, got him safely ensconsed in her yard and called around to discover that he belonged to her neighbor who did not even realize the dog had gone missing! Woof Woof thanks Jennifer for saving the dog and his family from hours or even days of agony.

Anju Bhagar Kohli
Guru Gobind Singh Foundation in Rockville, MD holds an annual healthfair where folks can get free bloodwork done. Everyone is welcome. We also offer consults with doctors from many different specialists who volunteer their time for this worthy cause. This year we had the largest turnout. Educating folks about anything related to healthy living is my passion. I am not a medical professional. We had some folks attend who don't speak English. We had volunteers who helped with Spanish & Chinese. As it was winding down, I noticed this 1 person & went to say hi to him. He managed to explain to me that his buddies left to go to a job & he had no way of getting home. I know nothing about bus routes or how 'infrequently' they run especially on a weekend. He told me where he works & that he lives close by there. I could hardly leave him there especially since he doesn't speak much English. I offered to drop him back. It was not far. We managed to chat a bit & I learnt a little bit about his life & circumstances. Sad & unfortunate. Can't do much to change that but was glad I was able to make the last part of his day a bit easier. AND yet again was reminded of the UMPTEEN Blessings we so easily overlook when there are many many many who face REAL struggles Every single day. So! Not quite sure if I did him a favor or he did me one?

Alisa Alt
Alisa Alt is a picture of kindness This year she and her family are donating eyeglasses at their church. They are also donating to the Thanksgiving Food Drive which goes to feed the needy of Morris County, New Jersey.

----------------------------------------------------------------

The Anonymous Couple
This young couple prefers to remain in the shadows. They spent November 3rd at a Food Kitchen where they baked a Peach Cobbler Pie and then helped pack meals on wheels for the city's homeless and hungry. Their pie must have been a delicious end to a sumptuous meal for many who also send a thousand blessing their way.
  ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sylvia Farley
A picture of loveliness and boundless energy, Sylvia is one brave soul. She has overcome many personal odds yet continues to be an admirably positive can-do person. She spent November 3rd at a shelter. She spread love and kindness, befriended a "lovely gal", prayed for Tanya. She then went on to donate a large bag of king size flannnel sheets to the shelter in Tanya's name. Here is Sylvia with her new "lovley gal" friend.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bijoy Kumar Bose
He is what you would call a humble, peaceful soul. Kind and considerate, this elder brother taught me a thing or two about spirituality. Here is his kind act spoken in a modest few words:

My limited act of kindness.....just donated to Helpage India , who take care of helpless elders all over India.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Lee Innocenti

I saved Lee for last because I have not mastered English enough to tell you what a fabulous daughter she is to her 102-year old mother  and an overall awesome inspiration to almost everyone she touches. Here's her no-nonsense story:
The husband of one of my aides became ill. She was so distressed because she could not afford the co pays and hubby could not get treatment needed without the copays up front so I paid them so she could focus on helping him and so he could get treatment ASAP.

---------------------------------------------------

Well, my friends - these 9 Angels on Earth have touched many, many lives in 2 short days and Tanya is rejoicing. God bless you all. The needy, and I, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

If you would like to share a KIND act between now and next year's Wall of Kindness, please reach out to me. I will gladly share - we all strive to make the world a better place.....
